100,000 replies to a single thread. I am not sure I have EVER seen that anywhere at all. Sure there are many many sites with WAY more posts then that, but not in one single thread.

Even if they have a 100,000 replies limit, I don't think you should be concerned too much about this. You'll never rich that limit.
Everything is limited to a certain point. Ever since I took C programming in highschools, all variables have some sort of limit. I'm sure the limit is really high and you might not ever reach it, but nothing is limitless.
I had a PHPBB2.0 site and it seemed to have a bug rather than a limit. It was around the 14000 post mark for a single thread.
Basically it would never show the last page of the thread. You could see the page before the last one and you could reply and quick reply ok, but you could never see the final page to see the last X posts.
I don't see why there would be a limit, and if there was it would not be 100 000, it would be something like 16777216 because the size of the variable would limit it.
The only reason it would be 100,000 would be if the makers of IPB limited it themselves, which would seem really pointless.
