Not meaning to start a brawl here, but having examined the admin side of the top two (VB and IPB) intensely for hours now, I'll have to say that IPB has evolved to a level that in reality (a place where I stay) it is far beyond VB in usefulness. VB still has a capture on the market but I was disappointed at the admin side, I guess all the hype and the devotion of the users lead me to believe I was going to walk in to heaven. I found a lot of really cool features but a good portion of them will never be used by the normal run of the mill admin.

IPB was cleaner and had a more modern layout and definitely had less clutter. I know who I am chasing now. :)

I'd have to agree that IPB has a better AdminCP layout but there is still a lot more options and control with vBulletin.

We won't see a change in vBulletin's basic look/feel until Version 4.0. Which, will probably be a couple years away.

Once you get used to the AdminCP in vBulletin, it's not so bad though.

I actually haven't see the admin panel on IPB. I have heard that vB's isn't as good as it could be.

vB's admin panel is more on the "technical" side. :) Everything but the kitchen sink is thrown in. It's not laid out very logically, but it's very.....detailed.

I prefer vB, I agree that the ACP isn't exactly very easy to use and doesn't exactly look nice, but hey, looks aren't everything because it certainly functions better.

I run vBulletin on my website.

I tested IPB, and found that the ACP for IPB was more user friendly, I never have owned a vBulletin forum before.

How can you run vBulletin on your website if you have never owned a vBulletin forum before??

Something sounds fishy here.... :)

No, I've been using it for about a month, and got used to it.

I just prefer IPB because their ACP controls are user friendly.

Using it but don't own it? Are you just admining it for someone else then?

IPB 2 is great. Have you seen the free hosted version (ipb1.3) http://invisionfree.com ? Its pretty good but is filled with security holes. They can easily be hacked and destroyed (people hosted by them cannot obtain a backup either). They are a target for spam bots who get thru even if you have email validation turned on.

Travis, you don't know much about foruming to say much. And why would you plug a site only to tell how it's bad?

I saw nothing wrong with him giving his opinion.  It was much better than you giving yours just to criticize his, actually.

I believe he was giving an example of where to try IPB for free to see what the admin side of it was like. But was also warning that to use the free version full time may be a worry due to security issues.

This thread after all was about IPB admin side and NOT about whether IPB itself was better or to plug it. :)

I recently purchased IPB for my Masonic community. I like their AdminCP a lot better than vB one. I enjoy IPB more than vB to be honest and their support was a lot quicker and friendlier.

Maybe it was just me. But I still like MyBB better than the both of them...
