Lets say you buy somedomain.com. Do you also try to get somedomain.net and somedomain.org and redirect them to somedomain.com so that you have all possible popular paths? I know there are even more domain extentions than those but those are the most common ones.

Myself, I own a .com and a .net of the domain and redirect the .net to the .com one in case someone tries to make a phish or clone on my site.

I have done this many times and we are doing it here with names like smallboards.com and small-boards.com, both which point to this site.

What you bring up is a good tip and a positive way to make sure that people don't purchase domain names close to yours and then copy your ideas.

Its and excellent move to buy the other popular sub extension on your main domain to protect your brand.

Nope - Just one domain is all - One could go broke trying to swoop up all the .net, .org, .name, .info, etc... domains. It's crazyNESS I tell ya.

When I get those, I just get the .net and .org, those are the most common secondary ones IMO. But you are correct, it could become a finacial issue :p
